What is graupel?

Definition of graupel
: granular snow pellets
— called also soft hail

Thanks. Probably something a plane would want to avoid. Sounds more like a tornado than a hurricane. Do you remember any hail from the canes we’ve had?

Obviously, we need to wait for the recon to sample the rest of the storm, but Elsa is somehow even more disorganized than it was a few hours ago. Pressures around 1005mb, 40-45 knot winds maximum.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

This is a site that attracts storm enthusiasts so people are going to be amped about any storm; TD, TS or Hurricane when it’s track includes highly populated areas.
We’re not too cool, looking at the calendar and filtering storms out.

Looks like so far the strongest wind has been 49kts on this mission. Am I reading the data right?

I'm always wary of these blowups that can just collapse as fast as they come in a struggling cyclone.

Where did Iota make landfall? That’s crazy. Maybe I just missed it during some hurricane since I’m hunkered down when it gets real bad.

Just because it's a big blowup doesn't always mean it's organizing

Does Elsa *look* better on satellite? Yes.

But recon has just shown that, at least on the first pass, the internals are still a mess.

oh no she is extremely disorganized. At one point may have had no closed center. She had to destroy her annoying llc to achieve her true potential. Lmao but for real yeah she undergoing center relocation I think

Could this be a CCC pattern? I'm not great at identifying those but I'm wondering if this may be one.

That’s true. But from a visual standpoint she’s looking better right now on IR (which can be deceiving) than she has all day. Wait and see time.
