I guess they learned from the 1938 hurricane and Carol...lots of coastal cities will need something like that in the coming decades

When was the last time they had to close the gates?

Honestly it’s been 30 years since Bob hit so I’m not so sure it’s been tested with any storm system since then. I would hope it would work as designed but who knows until it’s actually tested in real time with a hurricane

I looked it up and I think they closed them for Irene in 2011

Sandy, like everything else in the area.

Keeping an extremely close eye on this in southern Nassau County, and full moon is on Sunday. Many coastal towns here are still not 100% from Sandy, we can only pray for more eastward shifts with time.

Looks to be moving out of the belt of shear as we speak. Perhaps we could see some more symmetry tomorrow morning with a more robust outflow pattern in all quadrants of the storm. Every line of longitude Henri crosses before curving north could put Long Island/New England in more direct impacts.

Looking more impressive now on satellite. NHC will be shifting their track west to possibly Martha's Vineyard in their next advisory. Consensus into Newport, RI now. Maybe I can get a day off next week prior to the Gulf storm forming the following weekend...

I had dihydrogen monoxide in my town from the Remnants of Fred. It seems like Henri will bring more dihydrogen monoxide to my area.

Looks like it may be close to hurricane status, but I think they will wait for the next Recon.

Appears to be moving ever so gently closer to that 29N
Also if Grace presently is sustaining a 995/96mb I could see this being closer to 993 when recon gets in there if it maintains what it's doing

Yep, NHC track adjusted to western Martha's Vineyard, as I predicted it would be.

It sure looks like the convection has pulled the LLC under it (similar to what the Eric Webb tweet about meso vorticies said)

Was the ULL just north of Henri forecast to be there?

I'm kind of surprised that the media hasn't been paying much attention to Henri considering it is a rare event to have a TC making landfall in New England and it is only 72 hours away from a potential landfall. Feels like Henri is flying under the radar with only people from the weather community on twitter and boards like this talking about it. I think a lot of people are going to be caught off guard.

Agreed, I expected it to be all over the news by now. I think they'll start to pick it up once Henri intensifies into a hurricane.
