Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
I see a tiny pink hot tower popping, as if the current rate of intensification wasnt bad enough already

Cat 5 is probably the base case at this point

Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
This is gonna be one of those hurricanes that we still talk about decades later, isn"t it... I expected this storm to intensify, but after it struggled and kinda 'underperformed' I was starting to let my guard down and think that it might be less bad than many feared. And then this happens, intensification like this in the Atlantic is pretty much unprecedented. Only Iota and before that the 2005 storms may have had such pressure drops.

The eye warming is as sudden as the pressure drops and wind spikes.
Can’t say enough that this is very alarming. Eye temp will probably go north of 20C.

Mike, Noooooooo. Say it ain't so. It will project many landfall locations several times before landfall, I hope. Stay safe in Gonzales!

Its CDO is also becoming dramatically thicker and symmetrical. No wonder Recon is finding winds so extreme.

With how ragged the eye looks and combined with the extreme RI, I wouldnt be surprised if there are meso-vortices embedded in it...

FL winds look much more robust in the NW quadrant compared to when recon first flew in.

I think the reason the eye looks ragged is because it is corkscrew-shaped from rapid intensification...

Re: ATL: IDA - Hurricane - Discussion
Waiting this late to bomb out also doesn't give it much time for an eyewall cycle, so it like so many others lately is probably going to come in at peak. Big sinking feeling of horror here.

Colors of lost purpose on the canvas of irrelevance
Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

Symmetry continues to increase with mesovortices evident in the eyewall

Okay, I take back my earlier doubts about cat 5 being in play. If this thing combines this recent cold CDO and warm eye with a perfect stadium eye organization by the morning, it could definitely reach cat 5.

Boy, to be a fly on the wall in the NHC's offices when that last recon center pass came through. I'd give anything to see their reactions.

Following the school of GCANE, a whopping 80mm/hr rain rate in the NE quadrant showing explosive intensification:

This storm looks flat. Not symmetrical like Katrina
