Any funkiness in the presentation of the eye on IR satellite is due to the tops of the cells in the intense eyewall convection.

The radar presentation of the eye/eyewall remains steady-state in terms of both size and intensity.

Okay, so basically at this point I'm really considering the idea I'm gonna bounce if this goes 5. Inland I may be, but there's a fighting chance the eye goes over me and I'm not terribly interested in eating that in both directions. I ate about 100 sustained-wind for Katrina in or damn near the eastern eyewall and I wouldn't want to exceed that pleasure . . . though as I say this and note the details, it was a ~15mph forward-motion storm also and, well, huh . . . I dunno, I still don't like it.

It was one thing when it was to the west (even skirting me), it'd be another thing to the east, but I don't know how I feel about an eye trip, especially if this thing goes 5 and sustains more energy when it gets here. I might could live with 100mph . . . but I sure liked it better when it was gonna be 45-60 on me.

The GFDL would've had all this figured out by now.

I feel for you, did he at least get to a well protected place there? If not, I'd highly recommend that you contact him and see if there's still a shelter or anything in the vicinity that he can go to.

Trust me i did. They all just too hardheaded. Hopefully he left. What can you do? Once they become adults you got to hope they still listen to you.

He said they couldnt find a hotel so they turned back home.. he didnt want to go to shelter. i trying to get them to drive to thibodaux at least to my other son's house.

Sixteen feet of surge could essentially almost take Grand Isle the way of Cheniere Caminada or Last Island. Potential geography-changing catastrophe incoming for parts of this ecologically fragile region.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

That’s where the real danger lies with being in the eyewall - imho.

Latest NHC Disco bumped landfall up to 145mph from 130 in last report. Also interesting note in there of:
"NWS Doppler radar velocity data from Slidell, Louisiana, has recently been measuring velocities of
120-130 kt between 25,000-30,000 ft, which is quite rare, and
indicates that Ida is a vertically deep and intense hurricane."

I'm WNW of the current position. The western edge is forecast to be about 75 miles to my East. But it's still too close to breath easy.
