Highteeld wrote:Pressure up a couple mb. The storm likely peaked at 929 mb with 148 kt FL winds and 132 kt SFMR. ERC is starting based off the double FL wind Maxima.

I’d go with 135 kt and 929mb for peak intensity with that data.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

For those in Ida’s path, please stay safe.
If you experience any of her effects, please post in this thread.
Prayers with you all.

I see I've woken up to an even worse situation. Horrifying storm.

Not a meteorologist, in fact more of an idiot than anything. You should probably check with the NHC or a local NWS office for official information.

It does look it is wobbling more NNW than WNW on satellite the last hour. These wobbles are extremely important now.

Flabbergasted. Grand Isle is just a bunch of houses on stilts.

Remember there will always be intensity fluctuations in a hurricane that's why NHC doesn't jump to conclusions based upon one pass. It is entirely possible for Ida to take a pause now and reintensify right at landfall

Hm. Recent radar frames are actually showing Ida's western eyewall rebuilding again. Might be one of those weird, aborted EWRC we see ultra-intense hurricanes do recently. At the very least it'll maintain strength through landfall I have no doubt.

The difference between high and low tide looks to be about 9 inches. Won’t make much difference

Sadly just the very beginning of a long road ahead. The surge hasn’t really cranked yet. Just wait…

Yeah, that's what flabbergasts me. That anyone would have stayed in Grand Isle of all places with unstable buildings and all this advance warning of a very strong storm.

So very amateur observation, but do these not slow down as they prepare to turn?
with the right side of track wobble history of ida, could it start that N turn earlier than expected and bring NOLA more into play?

Those of us in the Caribbean who experienced Irma know what the people in Louisiana are facing now, and we send our concern and positive energy to you all.

Was it wise .... no
Is it what logical people would do .... no
But it is easy to sit afar and judge, but we honestly do not know what is happening within their lives that made them choose to stay.
Not defending the decision, but not going to pass judgment either.
