According to the police Chief of Grand Isle, they clocked 148 mph a short while ago, and the wind gauge broke. Said it is the worst he has ever seen there. They are in a bunker there.
He was just on the weather channel.

Rewound it to make sure it was 148 mph.

WC interviewed Grand Isle Police Chief. Said they clocked 140 mph before the wind gauge broke. Worst he’s ever seen. Squad cars filling withe water, they can’t get out to help anyone. Had 11 people walked in to shelter.

Yes, I'm really fearful for places like Houma, Gonzales, Thibodaux, even Baton Rogue may get a pretty hard hit.

The onset of the ERC probably held the storm back from category 5.

Grand Isle is getting a beating right now. I can't stop thinking of those who stayed... please let there be a miracle.

This is concerning because what's happening here is water is piling-up along the MS coast. As Ida pulls inland and more E and SE flow commences on the LA coast, all that water is going to get pulled around and dump. The trajectory of this storm is just awful for New Orleans. Not to diminish the wind impacts but I'm not as worried about the eyewall over Jefferson Parish as I am about the water.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

I am NOT a professional meteorologist nor weather professional. Opinions are my own.
Consult with NHC and NOAA for official forecasts and advisories.
