Just saw an orange road barrier take flight here. Gonna be an interesting next 6 or 7 hours.

Actually, Katrina made landfall in LA with a lower MSLP (920 mb). So Ida is the second most intense on record in LA, but tied with 1856/Laura as the strongest.

Oh yes you're completely correct. I only looked at the cat 4 landfalls and saw it had the lowest pressure and just assumed that cat 3s probably don't need to be checked since they have higher pressures anyways. But Katrina was of course a unique beast.

There is a stream of a guy in Houma driving towards the storm.

Not sure what he thinks he is doing. He sounds like he maybe under the influence but video is video

Changing direction, to more northerly, I suspect

Both I would think. NHC report had her at 13mph recently which was down from the 16mph it had been.

So, um, about that ERC. It seemed to be timed just "right" (wrong) to expand the wind field, but not enough to appreciably choke off the inner eyewall and weaken its MSW before landfall (maybe by 5kt at the most). Pressure rose from 929/930 to 933, but then came back down to 930.

I’m watching WWLTV’s stream out of New Orleans. They’re doing a great job of discussing Ida.

Im hoping for a day they use technology to destroy these storms before landfall

Would be nice but... messing with nature usually has consequences.

Grand Isle is gonna be a mess. Those winds are insane in that inner eyewall.

Yeah, that gap between Wilma (which did nearly $4000 dollars damage to my home in Boca) and Harvey was nice. I remember how bored so many of us were....

Grand Isle roofs supposedly getting peeled off, yet water still rising. I just can't comprehend this being survivable. Just gut-wrenchingly sad

too bad they didn't get the eye...by that i mean atleast they would have 20 minutes to maybe relocate

No place to relocate.
