It's definitely back over water. I'd think a 2nd landfall will be declared in the next hour or so, probably Chauvin or Cocodrie.

Weak side but safe.
Yep, its a fine line. There just isnt anything publicly accessible thats high enough and strong enough to get closer. Houma is good enough for this one. Folks, its the surge thats the issue, finding a structure to hide behind outside isnt the problem, you have to get 20 ft high minimum if needed and thats not always available.

Not much to look at right now, but here's a live Bourbon Street Cam.

Local guy just reporting 6.5 ft storm surge in Bay St. Louis Mississippi. and already 150k people without electricity in Southern parishes already. Golden Meadow about to get eyewall.

Stay safe all

I don't live there but I have a few relatives who are riding out the storm near Hammond (specifically Ponchatoula). One actually lives in Hammond but didn't want to stay at his house because his neighborhood floods easily. Kind of wish they had at least checked into a hotel, but...oh well. Their homes seem sturdy enough, I think, and none of those tall pines nearby, but I'm more worried about the lakes on either side.

Better spot for the eyewall. But I don't see any places for them to bug out if things go down hill

I hate to say it, but Ida almost looks better now on IR than it did on landfall. Radar presentation hasn’t degraded either. Any info on current intensity?
