Looks like PV streamer to the west maybe closing in on Ian as the trough digs into the GoM.
That would be a good thing.

Cuba did jack---- to Ian. Very concerned about RI to a mid-range C4 or even higher given its structure.

Many of us heard it as well. That the 11am advisory would reflect it.
I believe all of you that heard it. Do you believe that's the information the NHC wanted out there? The same organization that is emphatic about not following the line? Knowing the past NHC accuracy is that the correct message to spread and if not, why spread it?
Seems to happen with most storms, I've heard some erroneous and alarming soundbytes on the tube before, that just ain't so...I find it disturbing to be honest, sends the wrong message...like you say Tolakram, stick with direct info from the NHC, and of course, 2K....

i am here all the time but maybe it would be helpful to those here for the first time, what that means and what it means to storm development
I am also here during the season and still struggle with abbreviations and acronyms.
Googe helps sometimes, but still a crapshoot. Would be very helpful if there was a "sticky" that could be added to for reference. MVHO

Has Ians center reemerged over water yet? The center appeared to maintain pretty well over the West Tip of Cuba

Probably almost there. Radar image from Key West radar about 20 minutes ago.

Yes, that is my concern/worry as well. Also memories of Irene in 1999, which was supposed to hit the SW FL coast and ride straight up the spine of the state. Instead, she moved NNE and NE and exited the state right over my home in Jupiter.

3.48'' nearest weather station at 8:30 (past 24 hours) this morning so probably nearing 4 inches now with this heavy downpour moving through west FLL. Easily going to end up with 5 inches today. Or more depending on if repeated heavy downpours (red radar returns) move through.

Re: ATL: IAN - Hurricane - Discussion
My wife's parents have their "snowbird" home on one of the canals within Punta Gorda, FL. The house has survived Charley and Irma, but then again the surge threats weren't as bad with those as what they could be with Ian. They are back here in WI with us until late October, but are understandably concerned about their home right now. Can anyone here point me to some good online resources (aside from the NHC and NWS) for how Punta Gorda proper is preparing and the potential surge risks? I'm seeing reports of 5-10 feet, which would put the water up their embankment close to their home.
Prayers and thoughts with all of you in sourthern FL and will be here to track this with you all!

AF302 may have confirmed that Ian has come offshore from Cuba, it's a shame that the extrapolated pressure meter is not working.

I missed it. What did the governor say?

Good radar image, and speaking of Key West, and the Keys in general, I'm wondering what effects will be from Ian's passage, I am also wondering how long are residents allowed to leave the Keys, if there is an order to evacuate, before the roadway is closed?
