Re: ATL: IAN - Hurricane - Discussion
I would go with 130 kt for the landfall intensity if no other data comes in. The NW quad supports 120-125 kt and that is the back side of the storm. Pressure looks to be steady too.

en-us.topographic has a very high margin of error. That same location shows at 4' elevation on Google Earth. I don't know which is closer to the actual elevation, but do know that en-us.topographic has been significantly off for other areas.

Titusville, Brevard County. Steady rain with incremental wind gusts. Roads are starting to flood. Prayers for everyone..stay safe!

The CDO has notably warmed in recent frames, so there might have been some weakening just before landfall. Recon probably arrived 1 hour too late.

Only 104 kt FL in the N eyewall.
I remember a very good phrase that my grandmother always said to me:

From satellite it looks to be keeping that more North than East path. I wonder how much of the coast it’s going to scrape while keeping the eye partially over water. Not good.

I suspect the strongest parts are still over water, in the western eyewall. Splitting hairs at this point, it's a major hurricane doing catastrophic damage over a very large area. This is going to significantly and dramatically impact people's lives - my thoughts and prayers go out to them.

FL winds maxed out above 130 kt, sfmr 113kt in the N quad, and the strongest winds are likely going to be found in the W quad

136 kt FL, 121 kt unflagged SFMR in the SE quad. That was one of the weaker quads in the earlier mission IIRC (correct me if I'm wrong).

Talk about a 1-2 punch. What a nightmare in SW FL right now.

I would guess the N quad is now the weakest due to it being the most impacted by land friction to its west.
