Yup def miss his participation here.

He is busy with his clients. He normally doesn't get a chance to post with significant hurricanes

He said late last week he had 2 of the systems and his colleague at the station had the other two (one was this storm). He'll probably pop in and post some thoughts at some point, but he wasn't doing the desk work on this at least up to that point.

He's out riding his bike and enjoying the 110 degree weather.

Couple pink dots/hotspots (actually cold spots) on the Longwave on the western edge of the center. Should juice up more over the hour.

Looks to me like the eye is finally trying to clear itself out, and the plane is on its way.

Interested to see what recon finds here. On radar it kinda looks like a larger eyewall is wrapping around the smaller eye and will take over soon.

Or maybe that's just the radar angle, we'll find out soon

I'm kind of hoping I can get into that dryer looking space between bands just approaching the SW coast for a while. Gotta walk the dog before the weather goes downhill later. Motion still looks due N on satellite. Seems to be a little left of track in the past couple of hours, perhaps due to the ridging to the East of FL being a little stronger as others have pointed out.

Looks like she took a small wobble to the east, let’s see if it’s just a wobble or trend.

Recon data is finally updating on Tropical Tidbits, and just in time too. They’re approaching the outer edge of the CDO.

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

As far as I'm concerned, ALL of Florida should have the strict hurricane codes of S. FL.

These storms seem to be coming north just as strong as anything the south ever gets.

Maybe after this there will be changes to building codes in rural areas in the north.

In fact, maybe some areas did. Can anyone near Mexico Beach tell me? Did they update your building codes due to Michael's devastation?

Not an expert, but all counties are supposed to follow the Florida Building Code and wind loading requirements. In Gulf County, most new construction performed as designed and a lot older well-built structures did well also. Water(surge) was the major cause of destruction when structure elevation was not sufficient to avoid the surge. Wind caused the next highest level of destruction. Elevation was a major factor for rebuilding in surge areas. It is my understanding that any structure having 50% or more damage is supposed to be rebuilt to code. A word of warning for any one subject to surge from Idalia, do not underestimate the power of water. Don't gamble, water wins, you lose.
