First forecast has a 55kt TS before Hispanola and then becomes a hurricane once it gets further north

I am in no way a professional. Take what I say with a grain of salt as I could be totally wrong. Please refer to the NHC, NWS, or SPC for official information.

This might even have a shot of becoming a hurricane before making landfall in Hispaniola. The big question is, how will Franklin’s land interaction pan out? Will it get ripped to shreds, or will its circulation get refocused like Isaias?

I am only a meteorology enthusiast who knows a decent amount about tropical cyclones. Look to the professional mets, the NHC, or your local weather office for the best information.

Seems like most of the storms interacting with Hispanola in recent years have managed to survive. I think Franklin will make it and become a hurricane further north, although I wouldn't be surprised if it overperforms a bit in the near-term.

Obviously the exact track is crucial. Currently it tracks right over Hispaniola. If the track deviates east or west, land interaction will be significantly less.

I find it fascinating how Hispaniola is like a magnet for tropical systems.

This will be an interesting one to track. Amazing how quick the "switch" in the Atlantic came on -- we are now tracking three systems in the Atlantic.

My posts are my own personal opinion, defer to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and other NOAA products for decision making during hurricane season.

It should survive the crossing. Maybe hurricane threat to Bermuda in 7-8 days. Going right up the Haiti/DR border. Lots of rain for them. Not so much for Luis in PR or the U.S./BVI

Time for a break, been issuing advisories since 4:30am. Was thinking NHC would start advisories on Gulf system.

You thought correct, looks like that one’s being designated ptc8, or so says tropicaltidbits

Edit: I was wrong, looks like their floater for Franklin is named PTC8 for some reason. That’s confusing.

The outflow from this storm gave us 6 inches of rain today. We have some localized flooding, but nothing too serious.

Hi Barbara. Here in PR, we have been dealing with rainbands with some winds and looks like they will continue to arrive as TS Franklin turns north, but hopefully, no big flooding issues occur.

A TC genesis in the Eastern Caribbean graveyard isn't very Nino-like at all, is it?

Be careful, Luis. We had some really bad flooding from all the rain. Things pretty much back to normal now.

Definitely not what I expected. I was thinking the ECar would be a graveyard and killer of any MDR system that got to close a la 2018.

Franklin (the forecaster, not the storm) is also following closely Franklin (the storm, not the forecaster).
