Isaac this evening, CIMSS Real time intensity product is having it as a tropical storm speeds now.

Band 7 is very sensitive to diurnal heating, which makes cloud top temps appear to spike during the daytime.

See you in 2030, Isaac. In a testament to the quality-over-quantity year 2024 is shaping up to be, the sole subtropical spinup to date this year was a massive overperformer. Isaac was first forecasted to peak as a 60kt TS and was never forecast to be a Category 2 hurricane until it quickly strengthened to a 90kt peak. Isaac ultimately generated 7.83 ACE over its 4.5 day lifespan.

Isaac was also not really expected to form in the first place. It was only given a 40/40 chance of development just before genesis occurred, and model support was probably even lower than that. The TWO preceding the 40/40 was only 10/20, which means that TWO basically missed an entire Category 2 hurricane.

FYI, this is more ACE than Helene generated.
