The eye contracted 15 nautical miles since the last pass, sign that it should start really strengthening.

No it doesnt. Our time will come when it comes. Everyone here took Ian serouisly before it cut hard right.

I lived in Hillsborough county during Ian and that was not what I saw. The fact we see posts on here saying "Tampa will never get a hurricane again" is proof enough.

Anecdotal, i lived in pasco and we boarded up. Also, this place is a small corner of the internet and the posts here are not representitive of 1/10000000 of the population

But isn’t what you’re saying also anecdotal?

This is going to be an absolute monster. I have a feeling this catastrophic hurricane will be on the news for many years to come.

Just as all the monsters before and afterwards. Nothing special abour this potential major that distinguishes it from other majors.

I've thought and said it before, and been wrong- but I truly feel like Helene is finally on the cusp of RI at this point. I think she''s capped by how much she can intensify by an asymmetric structure and limited remaining time over water, but I do think we'll see significant strengthening to a powerful category 3 prior to landfall.

The size of this thing… Reminder Sandy was only the equivalent of a Category 1, I was without power for 11 days. My husband (then boyfriend) was making coffee for me on the grill, we were miserable.

Looks like the outflow (? Is that correct) is throwing up a bunch of tornado warnings over the Carolinas already.

Getting a nice wind in Hudson, I clocked a 51mph gust on the wind station. Not a drop of rain yet and the sun is unironically out

It is shining here as well! Cloudy and sunny and windy!

This is much larger than most storms so the surge/impacts will likely be worse than some other majors

That is a premature statement made when it hasn't made landfall yet. Right now some areas on the coast could face a large storm surge along with areas far inland under major threat as well. Only once Helene passes can we more fairly assess it.

Actually there is, it's much larger than most other landfalling hurricanes and due to the strength, the significant winds will spread much further inland.

Quoting this to get it more exposure. I think that's what a lot of people are sleeping on with this one. They just hear hurricane and just paying attention to wind speed right now. This thing is a monster which means storm surge and it's affects are going to be on par with something significantly more powerful. Sandy was an extratropical barely category one hurricane when it came ashore, but it's storm surge was practically category three hurricane if it was a direct tropical hit

Glad the Pinellas County officials are on TV telling the public not to compare Ian to Helene, that the storm surge could be 10 feet higher than with Ian.

Duke energy has 4,000 trucks currently stationed in Sumter county near the Villages. They’re sitting and waiting so they can get power restored quickly after the storm.

I mentioned earlier yesterday that my cousin leads a lineman crew out of TX. They’ve been stationed and waiting in Atlanta.

I am going to go with 948mb at 5 pm. I think she is rapidly intensifying.

I am by no means a professional. DO NOT look at my forecasts for official information or make decisions based on what I post.

Goal: to become a registered expert over tropical and subtropical cyclones.
