This is absolutely true!

I never would have believed I was someone who would "suffer" from PTSD, but I guarantee you, I do, ever since Ian.

I went through Charley and wasn't fazed, but Ian did me in!

We are MOVING just as soon as we can sell this property (already bought a place in Arizona - LAND LOCKED STATE!!! No hurricanes). Unfortunately, hurricanes keep popping up and making it impossible for us to get O-U-T.

My wife is the same exact way. We didn't lose everything in Ian but we lost enough for it to give her PTSD. We were also in the eye wall for 8 hours since it skirted right by us as it came through PC and by NP. We've been planning on moving to the N. GA mountains next spring. Hopefully we will be able to sell in the next 6 months. That is if anyone still wants to live in FL.

I'm hoping my house withstands this storm, which I can use as a selling point to those who think this is a wonderful place to live!

Really, it IS! Except when hurricanes threaten. I guess you pick your poison, eh?

If the hurricane models are correct, then that certainly seems to be on the table. The 18z HAFS-B had it getting up to 940 during the EWRC, before plummeting back to a sub 910 storm over the loop current.

Pinhole eyes tend to correct rapidly, I would not call it weakening, but it is the opposite of what it was doing earlier.

I guess my opinion is if people don't take this storm seriously that is their problem, what we can do is make sure people aren't trying to tell the forum what they think Milton will be like at landfall or who should evacuate and who should not. Always listen to local authorities and don't minimize the danger of this storm. We will certainly hear reports of people being surprised and saying this has never happened before.

Milton is probably pulling a Wilma with the EWRC. I bet the new eye will be huge like hers was

Do not take anything I say seriously as a form of meteorological prediction. I am not a meteorologist; I don't think being in law school translates to any special knowledge. I am just a somewhat bullish amateur watcher.

With Milton's ERC, some guidance showed it regaining some afterwards which leads me to the question of when was the last time a hurricane in the ATL went through one and became even stronger than before? I can't think of too many examples recently despite reading in general long ago that after ERCs hurricanes can peak.

The examples that immediately come to mind are Dean and Ivan. Their Category 5 peaks happened during the second time then attained that status.

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

FWIW I do see people on the move in my area. The vibe today grew very different. A hustle. A sense of urgency. My bank was out of twenties. Don't forget good old fashioned money..

Irma strengthened into a Cat 5 after multiple EWRCs.

Still supports at least 150 kt for the intensity, especially since that's a weaker part.

Snowman67 wrote:Is there a site that I can access that shows the expected size of the storm as it approaches landfall? Went through Ike in 2008 and a lot of people let down their guard because it had "weakened" to a Cat 2 before landfall. What made Ike so devastating was the size of the storm and the vast area that was affected by surge and wind. I think most people on a forum like this understand to not just focus on the category of the storm, however in my experience, most people I know that are not weather enthusiast do just that.

Just remember...Ike had lots of TIKE.

My heart goes out to everyone who has gone through a hurricane (or a flood or wildfire) because those of us who have been through a natural disaster understand you are never whole again. Not financially, not emotionally, and in some cases not physically. Vieques PR is the most beautiful place I've ever seen but after Hurricane Maria it looked like a nuclear bomb had gone off. No power, water, food, nothing for MONTHS. PTSD is real and unavoidable.

Pretty apparent now Milton is undergoing an EWRC. If successful, and right now I don’t see a reason why not, I’m afraid this means Milton has a chance to make another run below 900 as the storm traverses the loop current tomorrow. The storm will be larger and the surge building into the Florida coast will be massive.

Looks like Milton will be going through some 40-45 knot wind shear prior to landfall. Would be interesting to see some data of past storms having to go through this magnitude of shear and what the minimum and maximum effects on the storms were.

No, coz the Yucatán penninsula has a very low altitude and it's an almost flat terrain
