New pink pixels popping up all around the eye. Helene is making use of every minute she has over water to intensify further.

In that aspect, compared to the likes of Laura, Ida and Ian (all of which leveled off in the final 4-6 hours), it's more akin to Michael. The difference is that Michael had 11 hours to deepen further after becoming a Cat 4, while Helene doesn't.

That northern part of the CDO looks absolutely menacing

Unless explicitly stated, all info in my posts is based on my own opinions and observations. Tropical storms and hurricanes can be extremely dangerous. Do not think you can beat Mother Nature. Refer to an accredited weather research agency or meteorologist if you need to make serious decisions regarding an approaching storm.

it felt like that here. I do not recall a time the dewpoint felt so high at this distance from a storm.
Mind you : This is purely a subjective opinion based on finger in the air around 9am EDT somewhere in Central FL.
Even with the breeze the humidity is a wet blanket

Not spared on the beaches 70 plus gusts. Could have been worse though

Yes it is, hopefully wobbles back or places like Cedar Key are going to be in even more trouble then they already are.

There's no better place than any other. This storm is just catastrophic, no matter who ends up the loser.

For sure. It’s been breezy all day in New Orleans out the N most of the day 20ish which based on the trough and where we are in relation is clearly surface flow.

Eastern eyewall is beginning to max out the scale (142mph) on radar. Northern eyewall looks close to as strong.

Helene looks like some fantasy beast the HWRF used to cook up but it’s actually real time.

It's a mess here. And of course some idiots did not evacuate from their hotels, tried to make a run and cars are flooding out in sea water near major intersections. When they say evacuate due to surge, they do it for a reason.

There are always a few ignorant Billy Bada**es who think that they know better than the experts, and each generation of them pays the price. Ignorance is bliss, as the saying goes, and that’s because you’re too ignorant to know the dire danger you and your family are now in.

Exactly! Sadly until they get into a life threatening or life altering, situation with one, they don't learn. :(

Thanks for the long loop post. Is she tracking on the east side of the latest NHC projection? Shorter loops look like she is...but might just be optics.

Hey Buck. Good luck up there.

It's just a whole new era. "We need to grab the kids and get the hell out of Atlanta..., maybe we can head south to Miami where we'll be safe" :ggreen:
