Not a major city though? I'm thinking wind and tall buildings, and if they've ever really been tested from a near hit, or miss.

Alicia, Ike, Beryl? Do they count, or is Houston too far from the coast?

I would have thought post Ike they'd have beefed up windows downtown, but I take my daughter to Anderson (Texas Medical Center) now and then and downtown streets were closes for falling glass two weeks after Beryl hit, and it was a Cat 1. Also pulled part of the sliding roof off NRG Stadium, again. I hope I never see a Cat 4 here. Downtown can't handle wind.

A bit surreal watching this from a hotel room in Tallahassee, I brought the 32" smart TV I had so I could watch Baynews9 and I definitely see the east turn on their radar loops. If this continues, or a just north of east motion persists, it looks like the eyewall will pass over extreme south St. Pete and the Skyway.

*Assuming* the feared surge catastrophe is mitigated somewhat by the weakening and the center going in south of Tampa Bay (don't get me wrong, no matter what it's still going to be horrible for a lot of people); the biggest story of Milton might well be the tornadoes. These are large, intense (as many people have pointed out, more like something you'd see in the Plains or Midwest during the spring) and tracking through populated areas.

Was the damage in downtown Houston from Beryl or the Derecho that went through? We've had so many storms this year that I've lost track lol.

It went from one of the most impressive-looking storms of the season to…this. Always amazes me how 2024 has had multiple storms with disheveled satellite appearances but stronger-than-expected winds under the hood.

Transfer of energy to the north for now. We’ll see if it can rotate but it looks like a pulse up at landfall or at least stability vs rapidly getting dried out from the shear. Looks super rough winds/squall wise for all of metro Tampa especially if it slows and goes in south of the bay.
