TROPICAL CYCLONE INFORMATION BULLETIN
Issued at 8:45 am WST on Wednesday 26 March 2025

Tropical Cyclone Courtney (Category 1) was located at 8:00 am AWST near 17.4S
106.3E,that is 960 km west northwest of Exmouth and 780 km south of Christmas
Island and moving west at 17 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Courtney has developed overnight over open waters in the
Indian Ocean well to the northwest of the WA. Courtney is expected to continue
to move westwards into the Indian Ocean and intensify further in coming days.

Tropical Cyclone Courtney will not impact the Western Australian coast, the
Cocos (Keeling) Islands or Christmas Island.

The next Information Bulletin will be issued at 3:00 pm AWST Wednesday 26 March.

Tropical Cyclone Courtney (Category 2) was located at 2:00 pm AWST near 17.7S
104.3E,that is 1130 km west northwest of Exmouth and 820 km south of Christmas
Island and moving west at 22 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Courtney is intensifying over open waters in the Indian Ocean
well to the northwest of Western Australia. Courtney is expected to continue to
move westwards into the Indian Ocean and intensify further in coming days.

Tropical Cyclone Courtney will not impact the Western Australian coast, the
Cocos (Keeling) Islands or Christmas Island.

With Courtney now a Severe Tropical Cyclone, it is the 7th Severe Tropical Cyclone of the season.

The last season to have this many STCs was the 2014-15 Australian Region Season.

The last average season (current average is 11 TC) was the 2018-19 season.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Courtney has intensified into a category 3 system over
open waters in the Indian Ocean well to the northwest of Western Australia. It
will continue to move westwards and intensify further in coming days.

Estimated maximum gusts at sea: 285 km/h.

Estimated central pressure: 940 hPa.

Position on March 29 at 10 p.m. local time: 19.3 South / 89.5 East.

Distance from the Reunion coast: 3515 km to the sector: EAST

Distance from Mayotte: 4780 km to the sector: EAST-SOUTH-EAST

Movement: SOUTHWEST, at 17 km/h.

Key messages:

- System COURTNEY entered our area of ​​responsibility from the far eastern part of the basin late this afternoon as an intense tropical cyclone. It appears to have reached its peak intensity early this evening and is expected to begin gradually weakening.

- COURTNEY will continue its trajectory towards the southwest and then the south while weakening. It should gradually lose its tropical characteristics during the night from Monday to Tuesday, weakening more markedly and moving back towards the west.

Position on March 30 at 10 a.m. local time: 21.0 South / 88.4 East.

Distance from the Reunion coast: 3370 km to the sector: EAST

Distance from Mayotte: 4670 km to the sector: EAST-SOUTH-EAST

Travel: SOUTH-SOUTHWEST, at 17 km/h.

Key messages:

- The COURTNEY system continues its movement towards the South-Southwest over the extreme East of the basin at the stage of an intense tropical cyclone.

- COURTNEY will continue its trajectory toward the south-southwest and then the south while gradually weakening today. It should gradually lose its tropical characteristics during the night from Monday to Tuesday, weakening more markedly and moving back toward the west.
