There are pictures of some pretty bad flooding in Trinidad & Tobago at Storm Carib:

Just goes to show you that it's not always where the center hits. Guadeloupe, Dominica and Martinique which seemed to be in Isaac's "bullseye" seem to have gotten off quite lightly, while some of the southern islands got hit with extreme rains and flooding from the heavy southern feeder bands.

A very good lesson and reminder that a storm is not a "point" or a line, and that the exact track and cone is not always what matters in assessing impact. Storm size and the precipitation distribution in the various quadrants of the storm are really important too.

No I have a good friend from Trinidad, and I love the islands, so I enjoy checking out the reports from various islands at Storm Carib, but I'm not there. I work with a relief & development organization in Mauritania in West Africa (we get the northern edges of the African monsoon storms that become the Cape Verde hurricanes!) I also had a home in Florida for 10 years and still have very close friends there, so even though no longer at risk from hurricanes personally, I'm a hurricane geek for life, I'm afraid! Smile.

So true. I read somewhere today the diameter of Isaac is 1000 miles.
Having hard rain from Tuesday night until Wednesday afternoon, with strong winds from the west, last night was pretty dry. Today the wind is from the South East and is gusting quite strongly. Meteo France radar is showing the final bands of Isaac approaching from the South East.
Maybe if the run remains as forecast, we can pray that Haiti and DR see most of the rain pass to the south of them.

Good Afternoon
Bands are now sweeping thru about every 30 mins...after a quiet morning from 4AM until Noon
Even when the sun is trying to peak thru at times...the lightning never seems to quit or sub side.
Power has been off since 8 AM...but that could be just a planned daily outage....it might return at 4PM today.

Power has been restored ...batteries recharging for the inverter

Very strange ...since 1PM there have been no rains or any significant winds.
About 5 hours of calm conditions with clearing skies.

I just spoke to my dad who lives outside of Salinas, PR (Aguirre). He said he is doing ok, lot of wind and rain, some trees down. No damage to his house, but he can't tell if his neighbors have any damage. He said the street in front of his house looks like a river. But he still has power! I am glad he is doing ok, he is 76 lives by himself and I am in Florida, sooooo I am worried. But he has awesome neighbors, they all take care of each other.

Anyway, hopefully we will hear from the others soon and hear everyone is ok. I know cycloneye is on the other side of the island. My dad is on the south east side about 4 or 5 blocks from the beach. So hopefully that means that cycloneye is ok. And we will hear form everyone else soon!
