Actually, that got my DH to evacuate. During Ivan, he was going to stay with a friend in Lake Forest (on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay-- in Daphne), while we evacuated upstate to my sister's. He's from the Midwest and had never experienced a hurricane before. Plus, he wanted to be close to his office to check on his work. Despite our discussions (and my pleading to come with us), he was determined to stay with that friend. I just about went nuts when we heard on the radio, as we were stuck in traffic, that they had called for the evacuation of all of Baldwin County below I-10. I called but he insisted they were perfectly safe. When we finally arrived at my sister's, I called him again and he said they were packing to head for another friend's house in West Mobile that was not in an evacuation area. The police had come by and asked them for the names of their next of kin. It got them moving. I was a little bit relieved that he was in a "safer" place, though I really wished he was with us. It was a long night, for both of us, esp. after his cell phone battery died (could've killed him!). His friends slept through it, but he was awake much of the night, sure the roof was going to come off! After that, he said he'd go with us whenever we evacuate. And he has.
