Precipitation is showing up pretty good in South, Texas pushing north north eastward. Will that be effecting our area?

It was/is very slow on the Eastward move. Yesterday it was freezing in Austin and we were in the 40's here till after about 10pm. Once it started falling here it was pretty steady, but the temps kept falling till about 9:30 this am which is unusual for us and they were obviously moving East as areas to my est were 5 degrees warmer. Now we are seeing a little bit of sun peak through so we may get up to around 40 today. Expecting a hard freeze over most areas tonight.

Radar is showing mixed precip moving up north from Mex.If this continues on into tonight it could be another snow event for S. Tex. :lol:

If that doesn't slide off to the East we could very well see a problem from it overnight. Haven't looked yet to see if any AFD's are mentioning it. If we clear off like it looks like we might for a while. We could have good radiational cooling prior to that moving in, if it does, and that could spell frozen precip. We'll be watching for sure.

I was wondering about that myself. Brownsville is reporting Heavy Rain and 36 degrees. Wow, from 80 something degrees to that in less than a week. :eek:

it's 29 and there is ice on some of the roads and in the trees here in Huntsville. Nothing heavy, but some of the pines out on highway 19 have enough ice to make their limbs bend quite a bit.

Why is it South Texas has gotten significant snow(see Christmas 2004) and MS/AL/GA(at a HIGHER latitude) haven't gotten a flake? It's beyond annoying...

I don't mean to complain... it's just sickening. I'm fine with South Texas getting snow as long as we get it to.

Most of the ice glaze is melting away in the sunlight, even though it's below freezing out.

It looks like most of that moisture down in South, Texas is streaming out into the gulf. I have yet to hear the NWS or pro mets chime in on this so I don't think it will be an issue for us here in Southeast, Texas.

THE TWO PRIMARY FORECAST CONCERNS IN THE SHORT TERM ARE HOW COLD IT IS
GOING TO GET TONIGHT AND WHETHER OR NOT ANY LIGHT PRECIPITATION WILL
OCCUR IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE SHORTWAVE AS IT IMPACTS THE AREA LATE
TONIGHT AND FRIDAY MORNING. HAVE SOME RESERVATIONS ABOUT HOW COLD IT
WILL REALLY GET TONIGHT BASED ON A FEW FACTORS. THE CLOUD COVER WILL
BE INCREASING OVER OUR SRN ZONES IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE APPROACHING

It can never be easy.

Main concerns tonight are temps. and now chances for precip. along the coast and around Matagorda Bay. Who would think after a record breaking snow for deep S TX last year they would have an icing threat 1 year later and 2 weeks earlier?

Mexican short wave very well defined on water vapor images is moving NE toward SW TX currently. Radar echoes are increasing as far north as Laredo this afternoon. Given the cold arctic air mass in place it appears a winter weather event (icing and sleet) is possible tonight across deep south TX into the coastal bend and our SW counties. Tough call on how far north the precip. will make it as very low dewpoints and most of the moisture being in the mid levels should result in almost all of the stuff evaporating before it reaches the ground. My main concern is if the thing ejects further north and precip. does break out and then we have a big mess and a lot of surprised folks Friday morning.

For now will only go with freezing rain for Jackson and Matagorda counties although profiles favor sleet and snow. Little to no accumulation is expected so no advisories are needed, however to say the least it needs close watch.

Temperatures:

We should see partly cloudy skies early then increasing clouds around 1000pm as Mexican short wave approaches. Temp. forecast is a bigger headache as winds should stay between the 5-10mph range and sky conditions will be changing. Guidance is very low, but does not appears to be factoring in the increasing clouds. Ice across our northern and western areas along with forecasted lows in the low teens and single digits over N TX may mitigate the cloud factor. Will go a couple degrees above guidance. Fact is most everyone will freeze and for an extended period of time.

Frisco ISD must've been about the only ISD not to close. My neice and nephew live in Frisco and had school today.

the high on my theromontor was 29.5 at 1:30 this afternoon it has now fallen back to 26.2 and that is expeted to tank from here.there are still icicles still dangling around here
