.DISCUSSION...
FRONT ROLLING THROUGH METROPLEX AS I WRITE THIS. RAIN CHANGING TO
FREEZING RAIN EXPECTED ALONG THE FRONT...WITH DRY SLOT LIMITING
MOISTURE IN THE DENDRITIC GROWTH ZONE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS JUST
BEHIND THE FRONT. HOWEVER...SOME OF THE SHOWERS SEEN IN RADAR ARE
GROWING DEEP ENOUGH TO CREATE SOME ICE NUCLEI AND PRODUCE
SNOW...SO A MIX OF FREEZING RAIN WITH SOME SNOW EXPECTED JUST
BEHIND FRONT. DEEPER MOISTURE IS SEEN IN SATELLITE IMAGES TO OUR
NORTHWEST...NEAR WICHITA FALLS AT 3 AM...MOVING SOUTHEAST. IT
SHOULD OVERSPREAD COUNTIES NORTH OF INTERSTATE 20 LATER THIS
MORNING AND TODAY...AND AND GIVE A SWITCH OVER TO MOSTLY SNOW
NORTH OF INTERSTATE 20. BECAUSE THE DRY SLOT IS LIMITING SNOW
JUST BEHIND THE FRONT...HAVE LOWERED THE SNOW TOTALS OVER NORTH
TEXAS A BIT...WITH GRIDS SHOWING 3-4 INCHES NEAR THE RED RIVER
AND 1 TO 3 METROPLEX.
GUIDANCE CONFINES MOISTURE BELOW DENDRITIC GROWTH ZONE SOUTH OF
INTERSTATE 20...WHICH MAKES PREVAILING PRECIP RAIN CHANGING TO
FREEZING RAIN WITH FROPA...WITH A LATER SWITCH OVER TO OR A MIX
WITH SLEET/SNOW GRAINS AS NEAR SURFACE LEVELS CONTINUE TO COOL
INTO THE LOW 20S/UPPER TEENS DURING THE DAY. AGAIN...A FEW
SHOWERS MAY GROW DEEP ENOUGH TO MAKE SOME BRIEF SNOW.

Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
Front just came through here 10 minutes ago and had some sleet with it. It was letting up as I went inside so I'm not sure what its doing now.
Man it got real cold, fast.

Goodness you really are whining...dallas won't go below freezing FOR 3 or more hours? you better believe that has already started and will continue for another 24 hours..even if the moisture doesn't pan out the artic air is here and will continue to come in.
No need to cancel anyone warnings..if it's a bust it's a bust..but what moisture is to come hasn't even started yet in a frozen state.
I'll be happy with a dusting or a 1" if I get it today....one last chance to enjoy winter fun.

Down to 25, nothing falling just south of DFW intl but everything on all cars and surfaces other than the ground has frozen solid quickly... wind still very strong out of the North. The building band from northeast to southwest is entering my area and dropping very light freezing rain..

Re: Texas Winter 2010-2011
I'd be careful of using the "bust" word for Dallas at this point.. roads, especially bridges / overpasses, could be real dicey at rush hour.
Here by the big airport we've got light sleet and 26* on top of a thin layer of ice-on exposed surfaces, not roads yet. There appears to be a band of moderate precip moving in from the NW that will cover NE half of Tarrant, all of Dallas and certainly Collin county as it moves through. After that it looks like intermittent light to moderate spotty precip. Hard to tell if the radar is building anything heavier out west as of now. Either way, most ISD's may at least delay if not cancel. Probably a tough call after last week.
The following post is NOT an official forecast and should not be used as such. It is just the opinion of the poster and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. It is NOT endorsed by any professional institution including storm2k.org. For official information, please refer to NWS products.
