DCA is warmer than it used to be

#1 Postby drezee » Tue Jan 24, 2006 10:53 am

I am not a big global warming guy, but geez it has been warmer than it used to be in winter. DCA for example hasn't had a avg monthly temp below 30F in January since 1948. Before 1948, they had 8!

Also,

40F+ avg January temps: 1871 - 1948 (77 years): 10

After 1948 (58 years): 11 (including this year)

Also some hope for 2006, 70% of the time when the avg in Jan was 40F+...the following Feb was cooler than January.

25% of the time it was at least 5F cooler

More interesting info!

DCA is currently at a trace of snow (with little to none in the forecast)!

DCA had 0.1 or less inches of snow in Jaunary 13 times.

The average snowfall of the following Feb (134 years of data): 6.1 inches about 120%

DCA = Washington DC right? That might be attributed to the Urban Heat Island effect more than Global Warming.

Yeah... Reagan National, right in the heart of the city.

It's actually not in DC, but rather across the river (right on the opposite shore) in Arlington. Used to be in DC before Arlington and Alexandria were given back to VA a long time ago.
Definately cooler than other readings from in the city because of the proximity to the river.
