Oh please don't say that. No more this year, we've had enough. We broke another record for breaking the most records in a single season. I mean what records didn't we break. Oh wait I know one, the most Major hurricane record and we tied for most hurricanes.

how do we beat them if their cyclone year is year round
If their season is year-round, then it stops at January 1st 0Z (December 31 8:00 ET). Atlantic stops at December 1st 0Z (November 30 8:00 ET). If it so happens that there are no TC's up to November 30, the the WPAC would only have one month to spin up four, which is not likely in December (even in the WPAC).

Our season does stop on December 1st, true, but if a storm forms in December, it is still a 2005 storm. Look at 2003. We saw Odette and Peter in December. You never know with the tropics.

One problem with WPAC totals is that they include TD's in their numbers. There have probably been a few years in the past when either EPAC or the ATL have beaten WPAC in NAMED storms but not often (on this date in 1992, for example, EPAC had Zeke-the 24th named storm of the season there).

But for scoring purposes, I count TDs. I dug up this short post by me which explains why...
