Because it hit Florida and unrelated tropical storm force winds were reported. It's the same argument as the one over TD 10, which wasn't upgraded to a TS either.

Speaking of which, we got some TS force winds a few weeks ago... Maybe an unnamed Tropical Storm? This needs some further investigation, in the least.

For what it's worth, David Roth of the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center released a report on Olga's rainfall in Florida, which includes his own meteorological analysis. He clearly calls it the remains of Olga (not tropical anything), but he is not in the position to call it anything it might be.

Here's his analysis.

An upper level trough and associated cold front began approaching
Olga, which led to temporary strengthening of the surface circulation as intermittent convection developed northeast of
its center. The low came ashore the Florida coast early on the morning of the 16th near Clearwater Beach with a central
pressure near 1002 hPa and sustained winds of 45 mph with gusts to 78 mph. The cyclone then weakened as it crossed
the peninsula, dissipating as it reached the east coast near Daytona Beach.

If I remember right,they upgraded Danny back to tropical storm before it came off the east coast. They said there was so much rain that the storm reacted as if it was over water.

It appears that Danny was a TS over land right before it went back into the Atlantic. Yes, it had a lot of water, which would explain why Dauphin Island got 36 inches of rain.

I was living in Lafayette when the MCS that eventually became Danny came through from the North. Some of the most vivid lightning I ever saw, and I remember local met Rob Perillo saying it had a chance to become something in the GOMEX the next day on the local news.

Rained hard, IIRC, for about 2 hours, than it wandered out to the Gulf and stalled, and the rest is history.



Not a big hurricane, but enough to flood most of the docks in Venice, and salt water flooding and offshore oil field worker automobiles don't mix.

I think it was at least a TD when it approached the Yucatan, but what I think and $4.00 will buy you a coffee at Starbucks.

I would go as far as to say that there appeared to be a "low" developing as it was being enhanced by the frontal system near Tampa area. In which if it was found to have been warm core could make a case for something short lived.
