Another round of strong waves in Guadeloupe and adjacents ar

#1 Postby Gustywind » Wed Apr 02, 2008 7:03 am

Hi everbody, we're experienced our second round of strong waves in this dry season in less than 2 weeks, and that's pretty unusual! We're in yellow alert and this was in effect yesterday morning , and ...maybe we will be in orange today if the waves really increased to 4 meters !!
The weather forecasters predicted 4 meters with highs waves and strong waves approaching 6 meters today. For information, we're expecting 40 to 50 km/h of sustained winds with strong gusty winds near 80 km/h near the scattered squalls or showers in the area.
For your info today , given by the latest forecast from Meteo-France le Raizet Guadeloupe 02/04/08: the buoy of :
-Puerto Rico (20° N 65W°) was indicated waves at 4m 10 with a sweel from East.
-Caribbean sea (15° N 67°W) 2m90 sweel from East North east.
-Atlantique: Buoy of Guadeloupe: 15,°N 57,9w 2m60 sweel from East.
They predict hours after hours very quickly..waves at 3m50 and 4m meaning as i said thats huge waves will approach 5m50 and near the range of 6m or ligtly higher :double: .
So big epidose today for us in Guadeloupe, we keep our fingers crossed, because recently some areas has been suffered from theses huge waves an caused many troubles for the residents of the island ( "Le Moule "especially).
We keep watching this , hope that this will stay at this range of waves and no more!!! :double: :spam: .
Note that another correspondant from Guadeloupe... Huc... on another site were speaking about this roof sea there's two weeks ago approximately : "very roof sea "....To day,the historic non hurricane related sweel event, the most important since the perfect storm in 1991,arrived in Guadeloupe.
The waves are since yersterday night in the range of 4 to 5 meters, with peaks commonly rising to 7,2 meters!!!!! These are records by the Meteo France buoy located at the north tip of Guadeloupe " La Vigie". (Date: Thu, 20 Mar 2008 18:46:41 -0400) Roads inundated, also houses ,beaches erosion . No injuries at this time. The red alert is always posted. What news elswere??
.
So i will keep you informed if the situation evolves quickly or not. See you soon. Nice regards from Guadeloupe Gustywind.

Earthquakes and waves, I guess a Caribbean paradise isn't all its cracked up to be.

You don't have any active volcanoes, do you? That'd be the trifecta.

The latest weather forecasts focuses on the fact that there's in the Northen Islands and Guadeloupe sustained winds of 50 to 60 km/h with gusts higher than 75 km/h in some squalls or showers. Good morning everbody, nothing to add today, the range of the waves is unchanged... we stay in orange alert here in Guadeloupe , the Northern Leewards Islands too, and Martinica in yellow. We should continue to experience 3, 50 meters in average and more sometimes ( waves higher than 6 or 7 meters ) given the lastest weather forecast from our local station Meteo-France this morning.

Hope it's our last day in orange alert, no damages no injuries reported for the moment, this episode SEEMS sligtly lower than the precedent for the moment... :spam:.
See you soon 8-) :)

How come all the Caribbean volcanoes are named "Soufriere". Well, except Mount Pelee, whose name sounds supiciously like the Hawaiian volcano goddess, although I'm sure that is strictly coincidental.

We returned in yellow alert since yestarday night 530PM, conditions seems very slightly improving in Guadeloupe, the Northeen Leewards Islands, Martinica... with waves at 3 to 3m50 meters in average and higher waves at 5 to 6meters sometimes, but improving conditions should occur this late afternoon given the latest weather forecast.

Here is the latest at 530 PM, for your info today given by the latest forecast from Meteo-France le Raizet Guadeloupe 04/04/08: the buoy of:
-Puerto Rico (20° N 65W°) North of Puerto Rico:was indicated waves at 3m50 swell from North East.
Large Atlantique : 3m50 to 3m80 sweel from North East.
- Near the north of Guadeloupe ( La Grande Vigie):waves at 3,50 meters , with huges waves of 5 to 6 meters!!! Sustained winds in this area last night were around 50 to 60 Km/h near this coast with gusts near 70 km/h.
In nusthell, we stay with waves averaging 3 to 3m50 today and accompanying by strong waves near 5 to 6meters.

No injuries, or damages reported for the moment, whereas we continue with moist and numerous quick showers today and more unstelled conditions Saturday and especially Sunday....The yellow alert will stay until Saturday in Guadeloupe and the Northeen Leewards Islands.
Nice regards from Guadeloupe Gustywind :D

Hi everboby the yellow alert has been discontinued in Guadeloupe since this morning...meaning that there's no majors troubles with the huges waves and the sustained winds who where abating in our island, so that's good news for us. For my self, i have no reports of damages or injuries in the island and in vivinity of my others neighbours. Conditions seems improving steadily, whereas the waves are always approaching 3 meters ( 2M80) , but the tendency seems to be on the decrease givent the latest weather forecast...we should approach 2 meters tommorow afternoon..
See you soon, nice regards Gustywind! :)
