When is season over for northern gulf coast
Got a question for any pro mets or other informed amuaters out there. When do the westerlies kick in for the northern gulf coast usually. Not trying to predict an end of season like certain other posters(hmmm...ed
) or say the northern gulf coast won't get hit again but just curious. A cold front is coming through destin tonite and my parents asked me so I'm asking you. Thanks for any answers.

I'd say generally by or around mid-October, but you never know for sure until the storms stop coming. I'd guess maybe 4 more weeks or so. However, most of the really destructive storms and high-end stuff comes through in late August-early September. Sometimes you have anomalous years (2005) where you had a fairly late season mega-storm in Rita (obviously weakened from her Cat 5 days but still brutal).

The really "big" one are usually between Aug.15 and Sept. 15th. Yes there have been exceptions (Opal,Rita, etc.) but those aren't the norms. I feel better now then I did 3 weeks ago. As long as those cool fronts keep on coming down and cool the waters somewhat we'll be okay.

Southeast Florida season over
Now you've done it!

Usually by about mid-October or so, the westerlies start dipping down into the northern Gulf and it gets more fall-like. By then anything that comes up from the Caribbean usually gets shunted eastward.

Maybe you just jinxed them into an off-season shocker in December?
