First Depression to form in Eastern Atlantic

#1 Postby stormernie » Fri Jul 30, 2004 9:42 pm

I know everyone is key up on the disturbances in the Gulf and off the Southeast coast. However, from all indications I will bet that the first depression forms in the Eastern Atlantic in August... maybe as early as August 1.

Current complex wave existing Africa looks promising

I hate to say it, but that system in the eastern Atlantic looks promising than any of the other two systems we're watching in the gulf and western Atlantic. Probably worth checking out the Cape Verde systems more carefully as we get to August 1st.

It could very well be our first tropical depression. This is the first wave that has stayed at or above 10N. Has a nice circulation and thunderstorms right around the center.

Well, it turns out that the one out by the Cape Verdes didn't become the first TD. Actually, when I heard that the one near the east coast became TD1, I thought that the Cape Verde system had a better chance to become a full fledged TS because of its appearance. However, this morning it doesn't look so well organised at all. :(

It's soon going to move away from the shear but look at how widespread and strong our old friend SAL is! It's the worst I've seen in a while:
