TD 5 is at a lower latitude than where Charley formed. Assuming it continues to organize and eventually become something more serious, it appears that it might end up in the Gulf. That's a long, long way out though, 5 days or more. One thing about Gulf storms in August, is that there is a tendency for them to hit farther west, Texas or Mexico. That does not mean they "can't" hit elsewhere. Charley was certainly an anomalous hurricane for this time of year in that it moved quickly NNE after it got in the Gulf. Of course, that was due to a major, unseasonably deep trough. I am pretty sure that no major hurricane has, since records have been kept, hit Florida from the SSW in August. It's track seems more Octoberish. Usually the high pressure in the SW Atlantic is strong enough to keep August hurricanes from sharpley recurving this time of year. Of course, the weather is not bound by some sort of law. Given enough time, you'll see a lot of exceptions to the "rules."
