Really too early to tell where TD5 is going to hit, but it seems very likely he will become hurricane Earl and wind up in the GOM. A track similar to Lili (2002) seems plausible IMO. Definitely keep your eye on it.

What I've picked up from the other posts about TD5 is that it could be a gulf threat next week- but conflicting ideas on whether there will be another cold front . Cold Front= possible Eastern/ GOM threat... NO Cold Front= Central/Western GOM threat.

All depends.

TD 5 is at a lower latitude than where Charley formed. Assuming it continues to organize and eventually become something more serious, it appears that it might end up in the Gulf. That's a long, long way out though, 5 days or more. One thing about Gulf storms in August, is that there is a tendency for them to hit farther west, Texas or Mexico. That does not mean they "can't" hit elsewhere. Charley was certainly an anomalous hurricane for this time of year in that it moved quickly NNE after it got in the Gulf. Of course, that was due to a major, unseasonably deep trough. I am pretty sure that no major hurricane has, since records have been kept, hit Florida from the SSW in August. It's track seems more Octoberish. Usually the high pressure in the SW Atlantic is strong enough to keep August hurricanes from sharpley recurving this time of year. Of course, the weather is not bound by some sort of law. Given enough time, you'll see a lot of exceptions to the "rules."

I haven't been here since last year. Good to be back! I'm also in the Pensacola, FL area. This definately looks like a storm we'll have to keep our eyes on next week. Remember Georges made a smiliar track back in 1998. Looks like we have another interesting week ahead!
