I lived ther for over 20 years (in Jax) and saw many close calls. The last direct hit there was Dora 1964 at around 120mph. Trust me when I say that the city and especially the beaches there are not prepared for a major hurricane, there have been so many close calls most residents in the area do not think it can happen to them. You are corrct in the synoptic situation are similar. They are also similar to Isabel, with Henri near the Carolinas last year.

Uhm....AFM, please lean further north....or even south. JAX doesn't need this monster (which I'm thinking it will be eventually). Too many people in Jax are complacent about storms - especially ones from the Atlantic. They somehow think that the shape of the coastline - and the fact that Jax is tucked well inside that curve - somehow 'saves' us. Folks around here think storms either go well south or head up to the Carolinas - and we're safe. Thinking like that could prove sadly wrong for many folks.

Unfortunately many people are still complacent in this area, especially after Charley missed us so to speak. Hopefully whoever has to deal with frances takes it seriouslyLCfromFL wrote:Uhm....AFM, please lean further north....or even south.
