Tornados

#1 Postby Cookiely » Sat Sep 04, 2004 5:25 am

I hate to borrow trouble but would someone please comment on this topic in regard to tropical systems? Do some storms spawn more tornados than others? Is it based on the intensity of storm? Is it possible that we won't have any? I saw one map with high risk factor for tornados north of Tampa into Georgia (sorry forgot the link).

About half of hurricanes which hit land produce a tornado. Not sure why some do and some not.

The right front quadrant of the storm which usually generates tornadoes is offshore. It's quite possible we'll see a tornado watch later today.

Thank you ColinD. I'm a little afraid because we don't have a good panic room. I'm guessing the bathroom is the safest place to be but it has a small window. Would duck taping a pillow in the window help any?

I wouldn't worry about tornadoes at all. Even if there were a few the probability of one hitting your house is almost nothing.

Thanks ColinD. I'm more worried for my sister who lives in a doublewide mobile home.

Is there an evacuation order for where she lives?
