Night Time Landfall is Frightning
I remember hurricane Gloria as a small child and hearing the wind howl through the windows was the most horrifying noise..as well as hearing things crash and not knowing what it was..you couldnt see anything. Francis is making for a very long night.

I was 8 years for Hurricane Andrew in 92.
I do remember the howling wind.... scary noises. The worst was hearing our tree crack in the backyard and snap in half and miss our house by like a foot and that was at like 4 am.
You can't tell what is going on. I do remember my dad going outside just before that at like 2 am and the wind was amazing.

Seems every storm I've been through - Betsy, Camille, Fredrick, Elena, Georges - all made landfall at night. The one thing that always sticks in my mind's eye is that awareness at dawn when the first light reveals an entirely, completely, and incredibly different world than what it was just the evening before.
