They don't say it, but they have a very thin line that you can follow, and if you look at a map, you'll see cities under or very near the line With their forcast maps, which are constantly changing, they are telling which cities they think will be hit with each and every forecast advisory. If the NHC draws that line then it is only natural to want to know what that means for those who are potentially in harms way. Of course we know that hurricanes are not a point, but if the point that represents the center shifts a little either way it makes a big difference.

TV weathermen??

#23 Postby fishboy » Fri Sep 24, 2004 12:18 pm

When I see Tom Terry's credentials and they can compare to all the formal traing od the guys at NHC then I will give him some credit. I often watch some of the Orlando TV weather guys and I thinh they do the general public a great dis-service. Each one is trying to create a name for himself by going against the educated weather guys forecast. The good ones always have a way out in the event his forecast is a bust! In the meantime so much of the general public is swayed by these guys and put a lot of trust in their opinions...a potential tragedy in my opinion. Orlando had a great TV weather guy years ago but when he saw the first turn og Floyd and began to try and relax the public he got blasted by the networks. Forget his name but was once the chief at NHC. So their constant goin against the grain and potentially mis-leading the public so he can say "I predicted it first" is potentially dangerous. Mr. Tom Terry has no more advanced knowledge or info than anyone else! Those guys in Coral Gables have the training..the tools and experience for these storms. Thanks for your time!!

The forecast for Charley's dramatic northeast turn was in the midst of nowcasting, not forecasting.

Glenn Richards deserves to be "chief" -- beings that he was the Chief Meteorologist at WFTV-TV 9 for awhile. His style is or comes across better on WOFL-TV (FOX35)

Sheets was on WFTV-TV during Florida hurricane threats when I first moved down here. I believe I heard that he is still working with tropical meteorology in central Florida.
