Good news for Bermuda, if this keeps up, they won't see anything more than a cat 1

It appears that Florence reached peak intensity between recon fixes after sunrise this morning. Satellite indicates weakening since then. Only about another 18-24 hours of semi-favorable conditions to strengthen. Borderline Cat 1/2 now most likely prior to Bermuda. May already be weakening by the time it passes the island.

Wow, this season is pathetic. Every global forecasted this to be a major. What on earth is going on?

I dunno, but it sucks.

Chris was going to be a major one

Ernesto was going to be the next Katrina

Florence was going to be a repeat of Fabian.

It is September 9th, the day before the peak, and we still have not had a decent hurricane(and I'm not sure Ernesto was even a hurricane at all). With El Nino coming I don't expect late season storms... so time is running out.

We don't need another Katrina, we don't need a major hurricane into south florida or the gulf, neither I think Bermuda needs another Fabian. Therefore, so far, good news.

I think it would be interesting if we didn't get one actual hurricane this year, just to see how bad a season can be.

The last time there were no major hurricanes was 1994.

That year there was only one hurricane (and barely one) until November, when there were two significant hurricanes.

I honestly think 1997 would have been a better season to track than this so far.

So far 2006 its the best season in a loooong time. The weather has been just about perfect in the whole GOM coast.

I would like to add to that. Derek I think I sense a bit of humor coming from you. Is this the case? If it is... this is a rare occasion.

Beg to differ.
I see humor from Derek quite often.
Topical comparisons to Golf, Pink Floyd's "Wall" (OK, a stretch he merely said a "wall" but I am extrapolating); winning the lottery etc...

I mean how many times can the Pro Mets who follow these threads (and thank goodness they do and provide comments) tell the "its going west, SW, Texas, Florida, NC/SC" et al.. that this storm will NOT hit the US.?!?!?!?!

Give it a rest folks, how many times can Derek, wxman and the others tell us that Florence will be turning away and following the periphery of the high. Not to mention that the NHC comtinually restates the same thing!

Ernesto was a freak and defied all of the logic.
A storm that could not be predicted be it track or strength.
He was the EXCEPTION and NOT THE RULE.
The NHC and Pro Mets are "ususally" correct.

And Florences's track has been a "slam dunk".
Ooohhh; a metaphor that can be used by Derek too!!!

Lay off the Pro Mets, y'all; they have been exactly right on the track of Florence. Enjoy watching Florence struggle to attain Hurricane force and the other systems that continue to be "duds" in 2006.

So far, a well deserved break from last year.
And you can tell your grandchildren that you followed it all.....

I had posted in another bb (didn't post it here cause I know I would be flamed) how this year has been hyped somewhat after the April tornado outbreaks. In every possible big weather event since then, something causes a bust. Some factor. Some index. Some TUTT. Sorta like Murphy's Law (if you like severe bad storms). But I believe it's nature's way of balancing things out. Conservation of Energy.

In which way? Really mean or really tranquil?

My 2007 prediction: Less active than 2006 in the Atlantic. Insane in the Pacific.

I think we'll have a few majors on the east coast, I think we're due. I just hope that the peace lasts for the GOM......they need more than a year of drying out and rebuilding.

So, back to the storm! I think I see it's making a pretty good turn to the north now......looks like those Pro Mets actually know what they're talking about after all, folks! :D

Well, it's early days yet, but I'm actually thinking in terms of a substantial el Nino next year (I'll have to hunt for the post - I predicted this already last spring some time). So 2007 may very well be a quiet season for the Atlantic.
