The clouds have definitely thickened and the winds are still gusty here in Vermilion Parish. The rainfall has slackened a little from earlier this morning. Was out of electricity for a short while, but back on.

Is there a study on why weaker storms like Ivan have a tendency to remain offshore as they approach the coast? My memory would indicate that these weak systems tend to stall about 10-50 miles offshore and drift away from the acute angle as they approach the coast. This usually makes their landfall about 50 miles away from the point a simple extension of the trend would put it.

I would be interested if this is the same phenomenon as the one that caused Ivan to move around Jamaica and Grand Cayman Island.

hold the phone Smokin you might be on to something...ran a loop out of Lake Charles.....VERY slow drift to the west in the past couple of hours (almost stationary) and not as close to the coast as I thought.....
