For all we know, a black hole might be forming!? Hehe. Glad I stayed up for the GFS and Recon. This is one of those moments we'll never forget...

Let's take a deep breath here...

This area of the Caribbean and what it could produce was not unexpected. The rapid drop of pressure of course does make your heart race.

It will lose some strength before any CONUS landfall...

 Crows should've been extinct a long, long time ago this season. I've eaten a ton myself. They go great with Rice-a-Roni.

Oh... definately. It can't maintain this power for long.

the 1am advisory says the hurricane winds only
extend out 15 miles from the center... that's all?

Look how small the eye is..

The experts can correct me, but IMO that is why we have seen such a immense drop in pressure.

Is recon heading home or are they making another pass.

Also, at some point, does it become too dangerous to fly into a Hurricane?

They've only been there an hour... they are nowhere close to heading home.

and no... it can never get too dangerous. They fly at higher altitudes.

Katrina and Rita had large eyes so they would not be able to pull that off

BTW, just as a reminder, now that recon is at 700mb (10,000ft), the reduction is 90% instead of 80% from flight level.

Senor...

How in the hell are they even able to fly in a eye that small?

Even with my limited knowledge of flight dynamics....Banking at such a limited area is a bit difficult.

It's not fun. It'll only get worse as the winds catch up to the pressure. However, because of the tight pressure gradient... it's only about a minute of hell going in... a quick break... then a minute of hell going out.
