NHC Head Bill Read & Hurricane Hunter Visit Barbados

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to tour the aircraft but US Ambassador Mary Ourisman actually got to sit at the controls. Lucky her!

(The photo of Mrs. Ourisman sitting in the copilot's position and holding the plane's control column only appears in the print edition of the paper.)

I hope they come back to Cape May this year. That was a great time last year.

What a great job, free vacations to the Caribbean, and it is for the public good.

The WP-3D visited Galveston a few years back as part of an awareness tour, and a severe thunderstorm blew a private plane into the side of the Orion, knocking it out of service, IIRC, for several months.

Despite the dangers posed by a severe storm the team, including Captain Dave Borski, said there was never any real difficulty to get a crew for the Hurricane Hunters.

I know the truth behind that statement.....

I'm glad they fly with the USAFR now. Besides being roughly 30 years older than the WC-130J, the WP-3D just don't look as sturdy.
