Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to tour the aircraft but US Ambassador Mary Ourisman actually got to sit at the controls. Lucky her!

The WP-3D visited Galveston a few years back as part of an awareness tour, and a severe thunderstorm blew a private plane into the side of the Orion, knocking it out of service, IIRC, for several months.

this is called a CHAT.... Caribbean Hurricane Awareness Tour... We pick up the guys from the NHC and bring them around the Caribbean.

Despite the dangers posed by a severe storm the team, including Captain Dave Borski, said there was never any real difficulty to get a crew for the Hurricane Hunters.

I'm glad they fly with the USAFR now. Besides being roughly 30 years older than the WC-130J, the WP-3D just don't look as sturdy.
