I rechecked the 2013 S2K poll but still no close calls after the #14 was added.

I expected it

There were hundreds of these things last year, come to expect it.

Hurricanes1234 is going to be happy when he comes online

I didn't even think of them just naming it Nestor because its the last storm, that should have been done then. The reason is for identifying purposes.

The NHC offered a nice explanation on their FB page. "NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center Tom, the system will not be given a name. Only systems that are classified as storms operationally are given a name. However, it will still count as a "named storm" which is really short-hand for systems of storm strength or higher." btw my name isn't Tom

I saw this upgrade yesterday and was thinking: an expected surprise. It had all the looks of a named system in my opinion, even if it was to be subtropical. I can't believe I was right back then! And the storm almost became a hurricane (55 knots).

Re: 14th storm added to 2013 AHS - Azores storm in December
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_off-season_Atlantic_hurricanes - interestingly (only to big weather geeks like me), this is the first unnamed subtropical storm in December since at least 1975. All others since then became tropical and were properly named. Also based on my research, it is the most recent off-season storm to be classified post-season since January 1978 (when a subtropical storm appeared to have been handled internally). Just goes to show how on the ball NHC is.
I also found it interesting that the TCR admitted that the NHC could handle marginal subtropical storms only via marine products. That probably helps in situations like these, when they're expected to be short lived.
