Urgent US military intervention needed in Grand Cayman
The following is the full text of an open letter from Mr Timothy Adam Chief Executive, Cable & Wireless (Cayman Islands) Ltd
Wednesday, September 15, 2004
Grand Cayman urgently needs military intervention to restore and to preserve law and order. This needs to happen TODAY. No doubt US authorities are already aware of the widespread looting that has occurred. I have heard sporadic attempts at looting continue to occur. I got caught in traffic right beside a site where police had shot several times at a looter and had detained him, and there was a near riot - a very volatile situation to which police responded promptly with heavy assault weapon teams. In summary: If we lose this site, we have lost the country. This site needs to be defended with military assistance as a matter of urgent priority. The US Military also need to know that in this site and in an adjacent building (AT&T Wireless offices in Trinity Square on Eastern Avenue) there are in total at least 25 United States citizens who in my considered opinion need their country's protection NOW, hence I believe under US laws use of the military is justified or authorised. For the most part these are people who are very necessary to help in the telecommunications restoration work. PLEASE BE CLEAR: WE ARE NOT SUGGESTING THAT THE US SHOULD EVACUATE THEM; on the contrary most of these people need to remain here because THEY ARE VITAL TO THE REBUILDING PROCESS THAT IS GOING ON SO THAT THE COUNTRY CAN RECOVER FROM THE HURRICANE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE! There are a few of this number who are spouses and children of Cable & Wireless staff, families, and/or others who have taken refuge in One Technology Square, several of whom we are planning to evacuate through existing channels and military assistance is not needed for that.

Hey, guess what? You're RICH! You can afford to fly in private thugs. It's not that hard, and most such mercs are ex special ops, anyway.

Excuse me? Doesn't that mean any one who is poor should be able to rob someone who makes say $20,000 a year. After all they would be considered rich to this poor person. This is socialism talk. Say your parents were wealthy and happened to live down there. Are you saying it would be ok for them to be robbed? Get a grip!

Darn right, when our companies incorporate there to defray paying U.S. taxes, they should have planned ahead for a little extra support. Now they expect our good will.... just who will get the bill? The 489 U.S. subsidiaries that have located there for tax free status (and that is JUST the oil and gas companies)? Bet not.

It my friend is called good will which America was built upon. You know, helping out thy neighbor. Ever heard the statement - what comes around goes around? Think about it. I would bet my life savings that if you owned a business that large that you to would have it home based down there and tkae advantage of any other tax loop hole that would be available.

Perhaps transnational corps no longer require a nation state to justify their existence as legal fictions. A fading formality. Regardless of how the attourneys restucture their clauses in the sky, you, and other human beings will pay. Only human beings can pay, in the end.

clothes nothing more than an accessory for the rich.....optional for the little people...
"Clothing is wonderful, but let them go naked for a while, at least the kids," said Heinz Kerry, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. "Water is necessary, and then generators, and then food, and then clothes."
generators THEN food......thats my motto.

And his point was that the entire island exists primarily for large U.S. based corporations to avoid paying taxes. Now said companies are freaking out, demanding U.S. military intervention. To me, that seems terribly ironic.

Ummm, did you miss the part that these employees are US citizens - Men, Women and Children that are over there? I suppose we shouldn't help because oh they work for a big bad corporation who is avoiding paying taxes.

These huge multinationals shouldn't be pumping the air with CO2 causing super hurricanes to form and destroy the islands that they call home, therefore causing the poor in helpless to revolt and steal...j/k...a little humor...really the country is full of banks, so all they have to do is buy some hired guns and clean house on these looting vagrants...the US shouldn't be obliged to help, come on, weve got over 100k troops in Iraq and we can't handle that....

Send over a squad or two of Marines to help protect the US citizens for a couple weeks is all it would take.
