Cape Verde's Season is Over

#1 Postby Downdraft » Mon Sep 20, 2004 4:03 pm

For all practical purposes the Atlantic season is over. I doubt Lisa will make it all the way across but you never know. Time to start looking at the Gulf and the Bay of Campeche or possibly some hybrid type storms. I know some don't want it to end but personally after this year I'm looking forward to Christmas!

Over? Are you kidding? Look at all those storms out there and the ones about to form! Cape Verde was "over" when Georges formed, and we all knew how that was.

I think that's overly optimistic. Lisa has some fair chance of affecting at least the islands, and the one behind her I think can make it across into the Carribean.

After that I'll grant you we may be done with the Cape Verde systems.

Last year saw Nicholas in October! It isn't over till it's over, and in this year, anything can happen.

I figured that would stir up the hornets nest. Glad to see some feelings on the matter. But, with each passing day the chances of a storm making it all the way across are decreasing and unless you want landfalls isn't that good thing?

That is kind of irrelevent when it comes to the formation of tropical cyclones off the coast of africa. ;)

It's extremely relevant to somone that lives in Florida this year. I love watching waves come off of Africa and develop then turn north with no affect on the Islands or the U.S. And, Kevin if your going to quote someone capture the entire quote.

Of course that's a good thing. I just think it's overly optimistic to think we're done just yet.

In 1995 after this date we had Marilyn, Noel, Opal, Pablo, Roxanne, Sebastian, and Tanya.

In 1996 after this date we had Isidore, Josephine, Kyle, Lili, and Marco.

In 1998 after this date we had Georges, Ivan, Jeanne, Karl, Lisa, Mitch, and Nicole... if that were today, it would be Karl, Lisa, Matthew, Nicole, Otto, Paula, and Richard.

Given how strange this year has been the CV season could even be longer...So heads up for anything.

Kevin, I say ignore Downdraft. Anyone who posts an in-your-face absolute statement like "Cape Verde Season is over" when there are things still spinning off Africa as we speak -- especially this crazy year -- is just looking for a fight. Admits to trying to "stir up" a hornet's nest. When he didn't get enough reaction, he poked at you about a completely reasonable quote, IMO.

I agree, there may even be more development behind Hurricane Karl, Tropical Storm Lisa and the tropical wave east of that.

As for quoting someone's post. It is sometimes only necessary to quote the portion you are responding to. What use is the other part(s)
if you aren't responding to the other things mentioned?

So an opinion is only valid if it agrees with your own? Perhaps I should have clarified my statement by saying the threat to the U.S. decreases or may even be over from Cape Verde's storms not necessarily that the season for cyclone formation is over. I do take exception to quoteing half a sentence so that the context fits your own arguement. If you dont like open debate why have an open forum?

Its not like I quoted Darwin in a creationist manner dude. I left off half of the sentence that I didn't care about. If anyone really cares about it, they can read your post right above mine.

Gimme a break and a kit kat bar
