Is Broward off the hook? WSW jog possible?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Is Broward off the hook? WSW jog possible?

#1 Postby logybogy » Sat Sep 25, 2004 4:27 am

Is the ridge strong enough to make Jeanne wobble back wsw as she approaches the coast?

Do any models show this, or is Broward effectively off the hook for a direct landfall and Palm Beach County is really under the gun?

Don't know about a wsw jog, but I just saw an interview on CBS4 with a NHC forecaster, he said, 'i do not expect jeanne to make a turn to the north before it makes landfall'. The local met said so then it is on track to make landfall in central wpb county, the nhc guy said, 'yes'.

I think that no one, including the NHC is sure of this forecast. The trend is not South Florida's friend as it keeps shifting West. Right now, Palm Beach County has the bullseye, however, with the western trend and large wind field, Broward is definately not out of the woods.

Broward will not get a direct hit, you may get hurricane force winds, but not a direct hit.

Synoptically speaking there are many many reasons why this storm can still make landfall in southern palm beach ie Boca Raton but I do not forsee a central broward landfall possible at this point

Hate to use that kind of language, but I went to sleep last night expecting some hurricane force winds, some power loss, but not a huge problem. Now, it's not out of the question that here in Jupiter, we could even get the eyewall. The forecast landfall point seems to have moved south from Port St. Lucie/Stuart, to just over the Martin County line. That's way too close for comfort. We obviously still have power, the shutters are up, and lots of supplies ready to go. Judging from the radar and recent movement, we have about 4 hours until the first squally bands hit. But the overnight track shift and recent movement is very troubling.
