Glint of light on the nighttime GOES 12 east

#1 Postby tallywx » Sat Sep 30, 2006 11:34 pm

Anyone know what that is out over the Atlantic (in the Bermuda Triangle, heh heh)?

I checked and the moon phase is only half. Don't know what would be causing that.

Ask Art Bell- he might know :-)

Of course, he was rolled up in Manilla by a typhoon- power still out there.

Your satellite image is dead/missing now. Tried NS 8.1 and IE 6.0, nothing there:

Gov't conspiracy indeed. I can still see the image fine. Nevertheless, I changed the link slightly.

If you still can't see it, click on the following link:

Enhancing it in Photoshop brings it out more.

No, I think if a comet were to come that close to Earth we all would’ve seen it. Also, I don’t think comets move that way around planets and satellites? It’s probably just a “glint of light” as the topic title says.

Actually, a piece of dust that was hitting the upper part of the atmosphere could easily produce a glow like that, and the closer it was to the sat the bigger it would appear in the camera, hence we can't see such a glow, though the camera (which may have only been a couple hundred miles away) picked it up well.

And for those who can't see the picture in the initial post, right click>show picture will usually do the trick if the picture hasn't been deleted from the url.

That visible image can also be found here: http://weather.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/VCG12-03152006274.jpg

Are there any reports from the ground across NC or VA? Those areas had clear skies at the time...
