No-name storms: Left out of the database.

They may have warm cores, they may have rain bands, they may have central dense overcast, they may even eyes. What they lack is a name.

This is the thread for storms that maybe, kinda, almost, sorta, could of been named, but weren't even numbered. And there are plenty of them. If you find one, or know of one, or think you know of one, post it here. Also, I'm curious as to your opinions, what storms you all think were just cold-core/upper level/circulation free blobs, and what storms were nameable, and just left out of the database.

The opening is overly-dramatic, I know. It's just the slow season... and I'm bored... and... shut up.

Anyway, on to the storms, these are just the ones I could think of off the top of my head. Imageshacked. No particular order.

November 20, 1996, North Atlantic


September 12, 1992, South of Nova Scotia


April 2 (yeah...), 1998, NE of Puerto Rico (STDS issued by NHC)


December 22, 1994, precursor to the 1994 Christmas Eve Nor'easter


October 2, 1994, Gulf of Mexico (called subtropical by the HPC)


Five is enough for one post, though I know of like 20-ish. I'll be posting more later, also. Remember, none of these storms ever got a name/number from the official hurricane center of that basin.

It really is quite amazing, especially back in the lates 1970s how many might have been missed . . . unfortunately, our satellite archives aren't quite as good as they should be back beyond the 1990, and that may prove detrimental to our record-keeping in the long run.

The infamous 2004 May Haiti gale. Killed over 2000 people they day before this image, while it was over Hispaniola. It didn't organize until the following day.

I noticed 1992 had three no name storms. If they were named, than 1992 is more active than previously thought. If so, 1992 would have 10 storms. Derek Ortt pointed that out before I remember. Now I wonder if 2005 even had more storms that went undetected.

That doesn't look particularly tropical to me... or subtropical for that matter...

Yeah, you're probably right. It does just look like a cut-off low.

Many of these storms may look subtropical but if you don't any prove that it had a warm or semi-warm center, then they're as good as an extratropical low.

I know, we just don't have that kind of information on many storms like these. I'm not saying that any storm on this thread was a (sub)tropical cyclone, I'm just saying, by appearance alone, they look like they maybe, kinda, could have been.

EDIT: Also, this thread isn't a "omg this storm was a huricane kthx bye" thread, it's a thread mainly for images of impressive cyclones/blobs that just weren't named.
