Horrifying Report on CNN
They had on some doctor who said it is estimated that 200,000 to 300,000 people stayed behind after the evacuations.They believe about one third of those have drowned

That's true... we still haven't seen anything from the areas south and east of New Orleans... if the water came quickly(unlike New Orleans where it was slow and after the storm was over), people wouldn't have had time.
That's why there's going to be a lot of dead in Mississippi... the surge came and there was no way to avoid it. Whole houses gone...

Part of my concern with the possible number of victims along the MS coast is the fact that the surge along that coast came up very quickly. I have talked with a frined in Pascagoula and when they reached me one of the first questions they asked was "did we have a tidal wave". That is how fast it came up for them, at least in that area.

How many victims in Mississippi might have just been swept out to sea on the surge?
i have to believe this was somewhat limited by a vast percentage of evacuees from the immediate coastal areas. these people are somewhat hurricane savvy arent they?
this is becoming mind boggling if vast numbers stayed on the coast.

If that was Pascagoula, just think about those areas closer to
the NE eyewall in and around st. louis bay
