It's looking more and more extratropical.

Me too - although it still has a chance of becoming a hurricane before that happens. I think it will either hold at 70 or go up to 75 this evening, then drop to 60-65 before landfall.

I think it's about to go down soon. I can't find any impressive winds at buoy reports. Even a buoy that's only about 40 miles northeast of the center was reporting 24mph SE winds.

I dunno.. it could flare up again overnight. Maybe not to the extent of this morning, but somewhat. I anticipate a landfall between 55-65 mph.

I have to say that this system has been very tenasious fighting all the upper shear and dry air almost since the system was a disturbance in the Caribbean.Remember the multiple vortexes at that time and when it was a depression?

The storm is looking downright poor on the IR.

Another image. Check out the howling 25-30 kt winds just north of the exposed center. Also note that winds in the western half of the storm are blowing AWAY from the center.

Yea wxman...I was just looking at those reports myself. Poor Al! He tried! KTBW isn't looking that impressive either. It's almost looking like a frontal low on radar.

the structure is more reminiscent of the superstorm of 1993 with the large squall line south and east of the low center

I watched the NBC news and the weather people and other people who are reporting from Flordia say it's going to become a hurricane. They didn't say "might" so it means once again that they could be fooling people if it doesn't. I also heard forcasters on TV say that it's strengthening right now. Wow, getting Tropical Cyclone information from TV stinks!! Not only do they say false information a few times, they make mistakes a round the clock!

This thing can become a hurricane still, just need to wait on it. But this thing is so much like Alrene it's not even funny.

National TV news people do not know hurricanes very well generally.

Most media outlets, including other weathercasters just follow what TPC says. Until TPC says differently, expect them to talk about this becoming a hurricane for while longer.

It was also over the loop current. Had the maximum potential for heat energy and SST'S. I would not rule out the possibility of 75mph after the nightime strengthening trend. We'll have to see though.

On the satelite it looks like it is falling apart. What is that?

The last RGB image - http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t1/rgb-l.jpg - shows clearly that the center has no active deep convection, and indeed can't have any to speak of since this morning. All that's left is dissapating outflow which will look like convection on enhanced IR. So at the moment, it's not tropical, just tropical leftovers. It could fire up tonight but it will be over much chillier water so I don't expect much. It's a big change from this morning, when there was a big CDO with obvious active deep convection.

So I agree with several other here that's its going extratropical, which of course is great new for Florida. They get their big rainstorm minus extensive damage.

this reminds me again of Henri. Henri was a strong TS in the Gulf, expected to make landfall as a strong storm/weak Hurricane and then it fissled into a TD before landfall on FL.

I do not think my immediate area will see too much of the worst "Alberto" has to offer..as of now the local Jax TV Mets say 1 to 3 inches for Duval County, I live in the eastern part of it. Some small chance of Tornadoes overnight tonight into early afternoon tomorrow . That said; things can and often do change.......
