Clearly, the outflow at <i>some</i> levels in the western semicircle of the storm is being restricted. It's shear.
I'll admit the eye looks better than it has all day, but there is without a doubt some shear impacting the western side.

I agree the outflow is being restricted, but with that windfield it wont need to be a Cat5 to cause insane damage.

I don't disagree, but just because a pro met, respected or not, agrees with you - doesn't make you correct.
I understand your point. When a pro on the other side makes a contradictory argument I'll give it more thought. I just don't think we'll get back to a 5 as long as the western side is decayed.
If it rebuilds (and it could, you never know), then it will become much more likely especially as the remainder of the storm is very impressive. But time is running out...
Either way, this will be a catastrophic event as dhweather pointed out in the other thread. It really is a moot point...

The NW Quad may be inhibited somewhat, but that could just be the hurricane contracting and becoming annular (which the outer rainbands would mostly dissapear). Also note, on the left edge of the frames, that the dry air is modifying, and is being pushed away. A hurricane this powerful is mostly unaffected by dry air; only shear, land, and cold water can weaken it. Shear, as I have mentioned, is minimal at best.
