Once again, whether weather related or non-weather related, Perry starts another wonderful, insightful, and informative topic ... I totally misfigured where some of the nicknames had come from ... and it's very interesting to hear where some nicks have come from ...
Especially Garrett's ... I would have never thought of it standing for "Weather 24-7", or Jeremy's nick- "the rock" ...
The nickname Storm came from a multi-faceted love for weather and music ... and originally to separate myself from all the other "Mike's" that sang and trying to decipher which "Mike" was up to sing, I chose the name "Storm". I still use "Storm" for a singing stage name. However, when Concentric Eyewall (from TWC) convinced me to sign up since I used to talk to him a lot when I used ICQ and then Yahoo! IM ... I finally signed up ... I figured that with the passion I had for weather, I'd go ahead and sign up ... The name "Storm" was taken on everything, so after a long thought, I came up with "Stormsfury" ... and it did not come from the Project Stormfury that attempted to seed hurricanes ... but something I thought would at least stand alone ... (and it actually started with the website in its formative stage ... when at first was only devoted to music back in late 2001). Eventually after joining TWC in late Nov. 2002, I started creating pages for Weather and voila, the full-fledged weather website it is with a very small music section now.
Lately, I've been using a shortened version of Stormsfury (SF) lately as a sign-off basically and if it not for my website, I would have probably changed my nickname to SF.
The evolution of the nickname really isn't very exciting but since many others are sharing how they came up with theirs, I thought I'd share mine.
SF
