I'm really enjoying this thread. Ok Marshall, I think I'm going to call you MF_LosesGolfBalls from now on. I think it DOES sound catchy!!

Miss Mary/Mary.....if you really really really really really want me to just call you Mary, I will. It will be hard though....Miss Mary just sounds so cute! ;)

This was my sign on at TWC also, so I just kept it the same here. Not too creative though...

streetsoldier = ex-cop.

Used to be known as "wanderer11us", which derived from a line in "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", from the score of the movie "The Lion King".

Mine is pretty simple. I love weather and I grow hot chili peppers. I have 5 varieties going right now. The odd thing is I love Cold/Chilly weather so it really fits me...

Course it is 119 ( in the shade) as I write this... not a breeze in sight

119°? WHEW!!!
I knew it was blazing out west....my little sis called from suburban Portland, Oregon and said it was about 100° there...

Even more bizarre....it hasn't reached 90° here in suburban Atlanta, Georgia all summer.....topped out at 89° on three days at my location, and only reached 88° today.

Once again, whether weather related or non-weather related, Perry starts another wonderful, insightful, and informative topic ... I totally misfigured where some of the nicknames had come from ... and it's very interesting to hear where some nicks have come from ...

Especially Garrett's ... I would have never thought of it standing for "Weather 24-7", or Jeremy's nick- "the rock" ...

The nickname Storm came from a multi-faceted love for weather and music ... and originally to separate myself from all the other "Mike's" that sang and trying to decipher which "Mike" was up to sing, I chose the name "Storm". I still use "Storm" for a singing stage name. However, when Concentric Eyewall (from TWC) convinced me to sign up since I used to talk to him a lot when I used ICQ and then Yahoo! IM ... I finally signed up ... I figured that with the passion I had for weather, I'd go ahead and sign up ... The name "Storm" was taken on everything, so after a long thought, I came up with "Stormsfury" ... and it did not come from the Project Stormfury that attempted to seed hurricanes ... but something I thought would at least stand alone ... (and it actually started with the website in its formative stage ... when at first was only devoted to music back in late 2001). Eventually after joining TWC in late Nov. 2002, I started creating pages for Weather and voila, the full-fledged weather website it is with a very small music section now.

Lately, I've been using a shortened version of Stormsfury (SF) lately as a sign-off basically and if it not for my website, I would have probably changed my nickname to SF.

The evolution of the nickname really isn't very exciting but since many others are sharing how they came up with theirs, I thought I'd share mine.

SF

I became interested in the weather because I hate to get caught in the rain while cycling. I searched the internet and found educational weather sites. I thought that the coriolis effect was fascinating, and it operates like life in general: Going round and round, sometimes going up, sometimes down, and always ending up somewhere other than where you thought you were going.

I started to call myself "perfect girl", but it seemed too arrogant, and besides, I'd be fibbing :D I decided instead on "PerficktGurl" - because I'm an imperfect version of perfection :D

WidreMann

#35 Postby WidreMann » Wed Jul 30, 2003 5:31 pm

This name I took from TWC. My two big interests are weather and languages/linguistics. I signed up for TWC back in the day (specifically, Feb 12th, 2001) and decided to make a weather-sounding name, but have it in Old English, because I was studying that at the time. I found the word gewidre ("storm") in the glossary of my Old English book and decided to use that in combination with mann ("man") and combined the two. However, back then I thought the unstressed ge- prefix was always optional (it turns out it is generally not optional, especially with nouns - despite the fact that it completely disappeared by the modern English period with the exception of "enough" from Old English "genoh"), but I dropped it anyways and created "WidreMann".
